‘Technical and practical skills for youth empowerment’ was one of Dalit’s skill development projects, which has helped disadvantaged students and women to develop their skills and income-oriented opportunity despite the Covid-19 risk. Besides technical and income-generating training, the project provided financial support to girls’ higher education, it helped them to study up to the university level. As a result, their employment opportunities have increased and the women are becoming entrepreneurs. Emphasis has been placed on follow-up meetings with the beneficiaries, providing guidance to the Women’s Federation and Self Help Groups to make them sustainable and health protection activities related to Covid-19. Besides, there were activities to involve the stakeholders in the project activities.

Objectives

  • Facilitating, through abilities and skills development, the search for job opportunities for young dalits;
  • Reducing dropout of girl students from higher education;
  • Improvement of women’s social status through skills development, reducing child marriage and oppression on women;
  • To increase awareness on women rights, human rights and gender discrimination;
  • To improvement of the living standards of dalit community through the involvement of local administration and village leaders.

Activities

  1. Training on computer operating;
  2. Bi-monthly awareness meeting on health, hygiene and Covid-19;
  3. Stipend distribution to girl students through motivational seminar;
  4. Inception meeting/ Learning, sharing meeting;
  5. Bi-monthly meeting with vegetable/ medicinal plant growers;
  6. Bi-monthly follow-up meeting with vermicompost producers;
  7. Bi-monthly follow-up meeting with poultry rearer;
  8. Monthly meeting with Dalit Narri (women) Federation leaders;
  9. Monthly meeting with Self-help groups;
  10. Quarterly meetings with Self-help groups;
  11. Media Conference.
