Dalit has been implemented the project named ‘Access to Safe Water Sanitation and Hygiene (ASWASH) with the financial and technical support of ICCO COOPERATION since October 2012. It has been continued till December 2015 into two phases. First phase started in October 2012 and continued up to September 2014 in area of one village (Village: Piprail) out of seven village in Jamira union  and second phase started in October 2014 and it came to an end in December 2015. The project area of second phase of ASWASH project is all over the Jamira Union of Phultala Upazila under Khulna district. It has specific objective of “Increasing the access to safe drinking water and to hygienic toilet and disseminating information on hygienic and menstrual practices in the working area of the project” and three expected results are as follows-

  1. Access to safe drinking water increased by minimum 50% in the working area
  2. Provision to have hygienic and sustainable toilets increased by 40% in the working area
  3. Hygienic practices (hand washing and use of sanitary napkins) increased by minimum 25% among men, women and children

 

Objectives of the project

  • Increasing the access to safe drinking water and to hygienic toilet and disseminating information on hygienic and menstrual practices;
  • Creating service providers more responsive & strengthening the rights of the disadvantage communities regarding WASH.

Activities:

  • Conduct monthly meeting with male, female and Watch committee
  • Formation and train adolescent girl’s volunteer group for disseminating personal and menstrual hygiene related information in the community
  • Orient School Teachers and School Management Committee on ‘Personal and Menstrual Hygiene Management
  • Deep tube well installation in community level at the project area
  • Repairing of existing deep tube well in the project area
  • Public / Institution level toilets installation in the project area
  • Sanitary Entrepreneurs development in the project area
  • Women Entrepreneur development by providing support of low cost sanitary napkin machine
  • Celebrate World Water Day, World Toilet Day, Global Hand Washing Day and also Menstrual Hygiene Day.
